Nelson H. Ulrey, 87, of Holden, near Waynesfield, OH, died at 11:15 PM on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Community Health Professionals Inc., Hospice in Van Wert. \r\n\r\nMr. Ulrey was a graduate of Waynesfield High School, class of 1941, where he played basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the U.S Army in 1943 after working at Westinghouse in Lima. He fought with Patton’s 3rd Army in France, Belgium, and Germany and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After his honorable discharge, he co-owned the Holden General Store with his father and brother, and later became a gas and oil distributor for Texaco, Standard Oil of Ohio, and the Marathon Oil Co. \r\n\r\nSurvivors also include 3 daughters; Carol Flinn, of Waynesfield; Joyce (Judson) Daley of Lythia, Florida, and Jenifer (Larry) Sutherland of Waynesfield; 3 sons; James (Barbara), of Ada, Geoffrey of Wapakoneta, and Frank (Debbie) of New Hampshire; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren; a niece, Sue (Jim) Parker of Belle Center; and five nephews; Phillip (Sue) Zack of Bellefontaine; and John, Rodney, Don (Sandy), and Brian (Diane) Ulrey, all of Lima. \r\n\r\n
